UP secures transfer of JMC guard Arvie Poyos

University of the Philippines continues to rebuild for life after the departure of its core five Bullpups.

The Fighting Maroons have secured the transfer of Jose Maria College standout Arvie Poyos, marking another key addition to their roster.

Poyos, a 5-foot-9 guard from Kidapawan City, has been instrumental in leading the JMC Kings over the past three years.

Two years ago, he powered the team to the Escandor Cup title, securing a spot in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup.

He is the second Mindanaoan recruit for UP, following the addition of Surigao del Sur’s James Payosing.

Poyos recently made his Fighting Maroons debut in the ongoing 2025 Umajam Festival.

However, he will have to serve a one-year residency before becoming eligible to play in UAAP Season 89, where he will have two years of eligibility.

With the impending departures of Harold Alarcon, Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, Reyland Torres, and Janjan Felicilda, both Poyos and Payosing are expected to step up and help fill the void in UP’s backcourt.
