University of the Philippines booked its spot in the PG Flex Invitational Tournament 2025 Quintana Cup finals after overcoming a resilient Letran Knights squad, 96-80, in a thrilling semifinal clash on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Joining the Fighting Maroons in the championship game are the Olivarez College Sealions, who leaned on Bryan Manuel’s brilliance to edge Centro Escolar University, 82-78, in their semifinal showdown.
UP needed several late-game scoring spurts to extend its remarkable winning streak to eight games.
Russel Ogana led the charge with 21 points and four rebounds, hitting four triples and demonstrating his readiness for a spot on UP’s regular UAAP roster.
Four other Maroons reached double figures: Josh Coronel and Arvie Poyos with 13 points each, while Veejay Pre and James Payosing added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Former Maroon Denzil Walker also had a game for himself, leading the Knights with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.
For the Sealions, Manuel erupted for 24 points, including two triples, and added six rebounds and three assists, highlighted by a thunderous dunk over two CEU defenders, including FSA Abraham Apugi Takpiny.
Manuel was supported by Hakim Njiasse (17 points, 12 boards), Rodel Renon (16 points), and Jhon Panelo (13).
The winner-take-all title match is set for Monday at the same venue, with both teams carrying high expectations.
A victory on Monday would not only give the Sea Lions momentum but also set the stage for them to defend their UCAL crown early next year.
The nine-team preseason tournament is supported by Smart Sports, Crane, Topflite, Hapee Toothpaste, Gerry’s Grill, Spalding, Mighty Bond, Best Options, Multimotors Auto Parts, Vital Water, and AZI.
