University of Batangas (UB) Lady Brahmans hack out a 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 28-26 victory against the Polythenic University of the Philiipines (PUP) Lady Radicals to end their campaign with a win in the Shakeys V-League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena, Sunday afternoon.
Both teams slugged it out in the first set, but in the end, the Lady Radicals managed to come out on top with Syra Jane Romo and guest player Lourdes Clemente leading the offensive attack for the Sta. Mesa-based squad.
Things were neck and neck in the second set, tied at 19-all, the Lady Brahmans took charge offensively behind Kimberly Jamilla, Krissa Madalogdog, and Lalyn Garcia to help the University of Batangas to tie the set. Madalogdog scored down the line to give the Lady Brahmans a set point, 24-21 but Romo dumped the ball to give PUP some semblance of life, cutting the lead at 24-22. Unfortunately for the Lady Radicals, a net touch violation was called against them, sealing the second set for the Lady Brahmans.
Once again both teams battled it out in the third set, but the Lady Brahmans quickly established a cushion at 20-15 to prevent the Lady Radicals from taking over. Madalogdog provided the crucial hits for the University of Batangas.
The Lady Brahmans and Lady Radicals chased each other all throughout the fourth set. With the score tied at 23 all, Fritz Joy Gallenero scored a kill to put PUP at set point, 24-23. An attack error from Romo saved the Lady Brahmans at 24 all. Afterwards Garcia committed a service error to bring the Lady Radicals at set point again, 25-24. Madalogdog bailed out the Lady Brahmans, putting things at a 25 stand-still. Clemente managed to score a quick attack to signal the Lady Radicals’ third set point of the game at 26-25. Luckily for the Lady Brahmans, Ronnalyn Castor found a hole in the Lady Radicals floor defense for a dump ball for tie it once again at 26. Two attack errors from PUP finally gave the Lady Brahmans its first win in the V-League.
University of Batangas Head Coach Ahmed Aylion is happy that the Lady Brahmans finally barged into the win column.
“Masaya ako. Finocus namin sa practice talaga was more on defense. Ngayon more on blocking and attacks,” Aylion said.
Aylion said the Lady Brahmans’ experience in the V-League is a big thing for his players, especially since the University of Batangas is the defending champion in the NCAA South, a tournament that will start a few weeks from now.
“Napalaki ang experience ng mga bata, especially since malapit na ang NCAA South. Lalo na kami ang defending champion,” Aylion added.
Madalogdog top scored for the Lady Brahmans with 18 points, 10 coming from attacks and four service aces, while Cyren Montecer contributed 16 points.
