The University of the East could not afford an upset loss against the ADMU Jins as a loss would have given DLSU the solo 2nd spot heading into their final series of the day against the Green Jins. The Coach Jeffrey Figueroa-led squad had to rely on a total team effort to dispatch the 6th place ADMU squad.
Former UAAP Junior’s MVP King Philip Mendoza cruised past still winless Justin de Leon in a 15-4 win to open the series. Joenel Rendora did the same in his flyweight bout against Radley Dizon with a 15-6 win. Jenan Torillos lit-up Aydin Cortez in a 1st round beatdown. Torillos converted on numerous head kicks, including a spinning head kick, to win 17-0 via 1st round stoppage. Currently 3rd place in the featherweight division, the wild Marc Frigillana became the sole bright spot for the ADMU-squad. With Frasser Tahil leading 16-15 with a few seconds left, Frigillana hit 3 consecutive body kicks on Tahil to give him a come-from-behind 18-16 win. Raymond Cano was able to seal the match for the Red Jins when he edged out Joel Alejandro 7-5. In clear frustration of what happened to ADMU’s season, Jeff Alejandro grabbed Cris Mirasol numerous times in the 1st round resulting into 8 kyonggos to give Mirasol the win.
