University of the East swept two golds in the women’s division to boost its bid to regain the throne in the UAAP Season 82 Collegiate Fencing Tournament, Wednesday at the Paco Arena.
The Lady Warriors went 1-2 in the women’s individual saber event, as Queendenise Dalmacio bested Elvielyn Joy Javinar, 15-5, in the final.
Meanwhile, Maxine Esteban lost her chance to retain the women’s individual saber crown — and Ateneo’s back-to-back championship — after a 6-15 defeat to Javinar in the semifinals.
The 20-year old reigning women’s MVP, who won the individual foil Tuesday, failed to reach the podium in the individual epee.
With a 2-1-2 haul after two days, the Lady Warriors are back where they usually belong — on top.
UE then earned its first women’s gold courtesy of Rein Bustos, who beat University of Santo Tomas’ Marielle Peralta, 15-10, in the individual epee final.
UST’s Mira Dorimon and La Salle’s Divine Romero bagged the individual epee bronze medals.
UST’s Fhaym Sarrondo, meanwhile, joined Esteban in the individual saber podium.
Action resumes tomorrow, with the team events starting at 8 a.m.
