UCBL: Miranda drops 27 as JRU beats EAC for share of Group A pole

Jose Rizal University notched its second straight win while Adamson and National University debuted on high notes in the PG Flex Linoleum UCBL Pre-Season tournament Friday at the SGS Gym in Quezon City.

The Heavy Bombers leaned on a big opening quarter to frustrate the debuting Emilio Aguinaldo College-EOG Generals, 77-67, and draw level with idle University of Perpetual Help on top of Group A standings.

The NU Bulldogs, meantime, handed the Centro Escolar University Scorpions their second straight defeat via an 80-66 decision while the Adamson Falcons demolished opening day winner University of Batangas, 61-52, in Group B.

In other Group B action, the Olivarez College Sea Lions improved their record to 2-1 by downing Philippine Christian University, 75-66.

In a fitting sequel to his 24-point show in JRU’s 86-60 demolition of the Sea Lions in the opener, Agem Miranda erupted for 27 points apart from tallying four rebounds and the same numbers of assists.

Other players who shone for their respective teams were NU’s Jhomel Ancheta with 22 points, four rebounds and two assists, Olivarez’s Mark Gallano with 15 points, eight boards, and two assists, and Adamson’s Ray Allen Torres with 12 points in 17 minutes of play.

Meantime, games resume Sunday with JRU shooting for win No. 3 vs PCU-D and UAAP champion University of the Philippines going for win No. 2 against EAC-EOG at 11 a.m. CEU hopes to nail its first win versus Lyceum at 12:45 p.m. and NU tackles UB at 4:15 p.m.
