UB, ICC launch title-retention bids with dominant opening wins in UCAL

University of Batangas and Immaculada Concepcion College kicked off their title-retention campaigns in dominant fashion, blasting their respective rivals at the start of the volleyball competitions in the 2025 PG Flex-UCAL Season 8 on Tuesday at the UB Millennium Gym in Batangas City.

The UB Brahmans leaned on the deadly duo of Christian Briones and Prince Ramirez to sweep the Centro Escolar University Scorpions, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17.

Meanwhile, the ICC Lady Blue Hawks made quick work of the Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas Lady Dolphins, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.

Ramirez powered the Brahmans with 13 points built on 12 attacks and an ace, but it was Briones who shone brightest as the Player of the Game. He orchestrated UB’s offense with poise and creativity.

The playmaker tallied 13 excellent sets while also contributing five points on three attacks, one block, and a service ace.

For the Lady Blue Hawks, Jehiel Moraga led the charge with 12 points, highlighted by three blocks and one ace.

However, the spotlight of the day ultimately belonged to ICC’s Gio Devosora, who erupted for 28 points on 24 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces to steer the team to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over PCU-Dasmariñas, 21-25, 16-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-10.

Other opening-day winners in the women’s division were Centro Escolar University, Olivarez College, and Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas. Meanwhile, Manila Central University and LPU-Batangas also triumphed on the men’s side.

The CEU Lady Scorpions drew strength from Lourdes Cinco, who fired 19 points to rally past the UB Lady Brahmans, 16-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-23.

Devosora also got ample support from Mark Nacor, who added 12 points in ICC’s gritty win.
