Raine Alonzo delivered 5-of-9 attacks and fired four service aces before being subbed out in the second set, finishing with a match-high 10 points for the Baby Tamaraws.
Franz Pemaylon and Aleiah Devosora contributed seven and six points, respectively, as the Baby Tams needed just 53 minutes to defeat the Blue Eagles.
FEU-D improved to a 6-1 record, while first-round top-seed National University-Nazareth School (5-1) had a bye in the second round opener.
Defending champion Adamson University and University of Santo Tomas remain tied for third at 5-2 after securing wins against separate opponents.
The Baby Falcons were led by Sam Cantada with 12 points – including six aces – and Janna Dizon with nine. They cruised past UP Integrated School, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.
Up next for Adamson is a highly anticipated rematch of last season’s Finals against the Bullpups on Sunday, where the Baby Falcons aim to avenge their first-round defeat.
Meanwhile, the Junior Tigresses, with Jai Adrao, Lianne Penuliar, and Jhaliane Auxtero each scoring 12 points, overcame a rough second set to beat De La Salle-Zobel, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14, 25-17.
Kim Rubin also contributed nine points, 10 digs, and six receptions in the match, which lasted an hour and 41 minutes.
For La Salle-Zobel, Aislinn Alemana and Sabine Valdez led the charge with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Junior Lady Spikers dropped to their fifth loss in seven matches, while the Fighting Maroons and the Blue Eagles fell to 1-6 and 0-7 records, respectively. (TJ)
