UST keeps UE winless for 2-0 start

The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers rolled to their second straight win of season, ousting the University of the East Red Warriors, 25-11, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Tiger Spikers needed several lineup adjustments throughout the match to quell the 10-man Warriors. According to UST head coach Odjie Mamon, he expects his veterans to adjust better as the season goes along.

“It’s just matter of getting more games, siguro. They know naman ‘yung pagkukulang nila. I know they’ll have better games,” said Mamon.

“We’re happy we got the win, pero marami pa kaming kailangan ayusin, especially now na may mataas kaming goal this season,” the UST lifer added.

Senior Arnold Bautista led the Tiger Spikers with 13 points. Transferee Joshua Umandal added 12, while middle blocker Jireh Buro managed 12 markers off the bench.

Geric Ortega punched in 12 points while Kim Adriano added 11 markers for the Red Warriors.

The Tigers Spikers (2-0) take on the defending champs Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles (1-1) on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. The Red Warriors (0-2) will try to bounce back against last year’s runner-up National University (1-1), also on Sunday.
