UP gives Wendel Miguel and Charles Acuna proper send-off, keeps UE winless

Honoring their graduating players, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons salvaged their fourth win to cap their UAAP Season 80 Men’s Volleyball Tournament campaign, overwhelming the University of the East Red Warriors, 25-20, 22-25, 25-7, 25-18, at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Fighting Maroons bid farewell to two of their anchors when they last made the Final Four in Season 78 in open hitter Wendel Miguel and setter Charles Acuna. The emotional outing was highlighted when coach Hans Chuacuco called timeout when UP was at match point just to honor his team’s seniors.

“‘Yung timeout na ito para mag-thank you; thank you Charles, thank you Wendel,” exclaimed the first year head coach before giving hope for their campaign next season. “New team tayo next year.”

Miguel finished with 22 points while opposite hitter Mark Millete added 14.

UE went winless in 14 outings.

Clifford Inoferio led the Warriors in their final game, scoring 10 markers.
