Last February 3, the University of the East Lady Warriors were stunned by the De La Salle University Lady Batters 4-5 for the latter’s first win of the season. This time around, the Lady Warriors made sure to not let up, getting back at the Lady Batters with a 9-0 fifth inning mercy rule win, Saturday afternoon.

“Yung players naka-mindset talaga sila na mag-revenge this game. Natalo kami nun sa errors lang. Ngayon, sabi ko focus lang sa hitting — kahit mag-error kayo mababawi naman sa hitting,” said third-year UE head coach Edzel Bacarisas.
After picking up three runs in the first two innings coming from La Salle errors, the Lady Warriors lambasted their opponents with a huge fourth inning rally that saw five runs punched in.
Singles by Lourdes Blanco and Josephine Francisco opened up the inning. A passed ball brought home Blanco while a throwing error led to a Francisco and a Roxzell Niloban run later on. Lovely Redaja connected on a linedrive double to bring home Charlene Quintos to continue the surge.
“Wala kaming ginawa kung hindi hitting. Wala naman kami problema sa depensa. This round, kailangan namin magfocus sa opensa at sa depensa — pukpukan na talaga,” added Bacarisas.
Another run in the fifth inning — a Niloban single that brought home Francisco, gave UE an imposing 9-0 lead.
La Salle had a chance to at least extend the contest beyond the fifth inning but Redaja struck out Alleena Concepcion with two outs and the bases loaded.
Redaja gave up just three hits for UE.
UE will next face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Monday, February 19 while La Salle takes on the UP Lady Maroons on the same day.
