UAAP POW Jorick Bautista thrives as Chambers’ program begins to flourish

Jorick Bautista of Far Eastern University delivered stellar performances during the past week of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournaments.

His efforts helped propel his team to a 2-0 record from October 12 to 19, earning him recognition as the Collegiate Press Corps’ UAAP Men’s Player of the Week, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals, making him the top choice among sports scribes in the men’s tournament.

In a closely-contested battle against Adamson on October 12, Bautista played a pivotal role in FEU’s 76-72 victory, scoring nine of his 21 points during the extra period.

His clutch performances continued as he hit a crucial three-pointer in the Tamaraws’ 65-58 triumph over the NU Bulldogs on October 16, finishing with 17 points.

With these back-to-back wins, FEU improved to 3-6, claiming three victories in their last four games and securing fifth place in the standings.

“Sobrang saya po kasi sabi nga ni Royce (Alforque) yung mga hard work namin kung paano namin i-push yung isa’t isa sa training na ginagawa namin, paunti-unti nang nagbubunga. Sobrang sarap talaga sa feeling na makuha yung panalo,” Bautista said.

Bautista edged out teammate Mo Konateh in a close vote for the weekly honor, competing against La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao and Mike Phillips, Ateneo’s Andrew Bongo, and UP’s Francis Lopez for this recognition that also has Discovery Suites and World Balance as minor sponsors.
