Far Eastern University University of Santo Tomas battled to a goalless draw, splitting the points in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament at the UP Football Stadium on Thursday.
The Tamaraws, who remained in second place with 17 points, were disappointed by the outcome.
“Well, it’s not a good result. We needed the three points to push Ateneo,” said FEU’s Spanish coach, Roman Oliver.
“We’re playing big matches now, so we’re not happy with the result. It was a tough, physical game. We had our chances but missed them. When you miss too many, you don’t win,” he added.
The Golden Booters, who are still in contention for a Final Four spot, managed to salvage a point from the match.
UST, which had suffered a surprising 1-2 loss to last-place Adamson University on Sunday, moved up to 13 points.
Marc Celis had a chance to give UST the lead in the 86th minute, but his attempt was saved by defender Chris Valderama, who was in the right place at the right time after goalkeeper Jose Miguel Abada left the post unguarded.
Carlo Hulagno had a late opportunity to give the Tamaraws the win in stoppage time, but the substitute failed to convert Edgar Aban’s corner.
FEU, which had opened the second round with back-to-back wins, faces a tough challenge next, with a match against Ateneo on Nov. 21.
UST’s next game is also on Nov. 21, where they will face University of the East. (TJ)
