UAAP denies La Salle’s appeal, Ayo to serve suspension

First year De La Salle University Green Archers head coach Aldin Ayo will not be on hand for the first round encounter between the De La Salle University Green Archers (6-0) and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles (4-2) on Sunday, October 2.

La Salle’s UAAP board member Edwin Reyes confirmed Saturday afternoon that the league has denied their appeal, which was filed last Thursday.

“We have just been notified that our appeal has been denied,” he said in a short message.

Ayo was ejected from La Salle’s game against the University of the East Red Warriors last Wednesday.

With 1:12 remaining in the first half, Thomas Torres was called for an out of bounds turnover after UE’s Wilson Bartolome forced Torres out. No foul was called on Bartolome that drew ire from the fiery mentor.

At the heat of the moment, Ayo grabbed assistant coach Siot Tanquingcen’s glasses and immediately confronted referee Eric Viray. The 38 year old tried to put the pair of glasses on the referee resulting to his expulsion from the game.

Lead assistant coach Louie Gonzalez will serve as the team’s head coach for the ADMU-DLSU tilt.

The Green Archers will also miss the services of Jeron Teng in the rivalry game as he is recovering from a minor surgery.
