UAAP 86 WVB: Solomon, Belen spark NU’s commanding win vs Adamson for share of second

National University delivered a strong finisher in all three sets to sweep Adamson University, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, and post its second straight win in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, Wednesday.

Main gunners Alyssa Solomon and Bella Belen took turns hammering the Lady Falcons, ending up with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

NU improved its record to 2-1 after also beating Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday for a piece of the second spot, tied with De La Salle University and Far Eastern University.

“Nakakabawi bawi na kahit papaano now that we won in three sets, first time dito sa first round. Hopefully magtuloy-tuloy pa yung magandang kundisyon ng katawan ng mga players namin pati yung mindset,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Norman Miguel.

Just like in the first two periods where NU pulled away late, Erin Pangilinan, Vange Alinsug, and Belen teamed up to turn a 21-18 affair into a 25-20 clincher.

Alinsug dropped 12 points, Pangilinan got eight, while Shaira Jardio took care of defense with 16 excellent receptions and nine digs.

“Yung patience namin sa isa’t isa yun yung napansin ko kanina na kahit anong mangyari, may ibang sasalo para sayo na will cheer you up,” shared Solomon as they were able to end the match in one hour and 22 minutes.

May Ann Nuique and AA Adolfo supplied nine points apiece as the Lady Falcons fell to 1-2 for joint-fifth with University of the East.

NU will seek to make it three wins in a row on Saturday when it collides with University of the Philippines at the SM Mall of Asia Arena while Adamson will be back on Sunday against UE.
