UAAP 86 WVB: Angge Poyos’ career-high performance downs Ateneo, keeps UST unblemished

Angge Poyos put on a show, dropping a personal-best performance and boosting University of Santo Tomas to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 dominant win over Ateneo de Manila University, maintaining its flawless record in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Poyos, the 20-year-old rookie out of UST High School, unloaded a career-best performance of 26 points spread through 21-of-41 attacks, three service aces, and two blocks.

Poyos had a hot start, scoring 11 points in the first set where the league-leading Golden Tigresses are in total control.

Sustaining its finest start in 13 years, UST now has an immaculate 5-0 in the team standing.

“Simple lang po ang instruction ni Coach Kungfu (Reyes), kung ano lang yung ginagawa namin sa training na high intensity, dapat pagdating din sa tunay na laro ganon din yung ikikilos, wala silang babaguhin,” said UST assistant coach Lerma Giron.

The Golden Tigresses had some challenges, especially in the third set when the Blue Eagles inched within one, 17-18.

However, the lefty spikers Jonna Perdido and Regina Jurado delivered for UST down the stretch for the victory in one hour and 29 minutes.UAAP86-WVB-Angge-Poyos-9299 UAAP 86 WVB: Angge Poyos' career-high performance downs Ateneo, keeps UST unblemished ADMU News UAAP UST Volleyball - philippine sports news

Jurado finished with 12 points and 10 digs while Perdido ended up with eight points and six excellent receptions.

Lyann De Guzman shone in the loss for Ateneo with 11 points, five digs, and five receptions.
