Far Eastern University regained control of the top spot in the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Volleyball Tournament after tripping Adamson University in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19, on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Tamaraws have gotten past their previous defeat to National University to improve to 5-1.
Dryx Saavedra led the way for FEU’s bounce back win with 13 points on nine attacks, three blocks, and a service ace.
“Yung nangyari sa amin last time breaks of the game. Yung paghahanda namin sa Adamson, hindi kasi puwedeng titigil sa nangyari doon sa NU eh,” said Tamaraws head coach Eddieson Orcullo.
“Kung meron kaming 24 hours pag nanalo kami para makarecover ulit kami back sa ensayo, ganon din sa pagkatalo. Kapag natalo kami, meron lang din kaming 24 hours para marecover yung sarili namin,” he added.
With FEU ahead by just a single point midway through the third, Jeff Abuniawan and Codz Codilla provided the spark while the Soaring Falcons also helped their foes’ cause with multiple errors for the win in just 74 minutes.
Adamson fell to 2-3, tied with University of Santo Tomas for fifth.
Aside from Saavedra, Martin Bugaoan (11), Andrei Delicana (10), and Jayjay Javelona (10) all breached double figures for the Tamaraws.
Francis Casas was the lone bright spot for the Soaring Falcons with 17 points on 17-of-29 attacks.
FEU will close its first round schedule on March 17 against Ateneo de Manila University. Meanwhile, Adamson will also face the Blue Eagles on Wednesday.
