UAAP 86 MVB: Adamson dominates UE with straight-set victory to even slate

Adamson University soared to a straight-sets win over University of the East, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23, to even its record in the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Sunday.

After a smooth-sailing first two frames, the Soaring Falcons encountered a more fiery Red Warriors in the third.

Trailing 17-21, UE went to Steve Aligayon and Joshua Pozas to knot the game at 23-all.

But Adamson’s Jude Aguilar and Francis Casas delivered a huge quick attack and a solid kill block, respectively, to finish the game in one hour and 19 minutes.

“We learned doon sa previous losses namin against La Salle and NU so yun yung naging motivation namin to improve pa, nagmaterialize naman this game,” said Soaring Falcons head coach George Pascua.

Aguilar tallied 14 points on 10-of-19 attacks and four blocks and collected five digs, while Casas also finished with 14 on 11 spikes and three rejections.

Rookie Joel Menor also came through with 12 points, seven excellent receptions, and five digs in the win.

The Soaring Falcons improve to .500 at 2-2 for a tie at fifth place with Ateneo de Manila University, while keeping the Red Warriors winless at 0-4.

Pozas, who came off the bench, was the lone double-digit scorer for UE with 10.

Adamson will next play against current leader Far Eastern University on Saturday while UE gets another chance to enter the winner’s circle on Wednesday against De La Salle University. Both will be held at the Pasay venue.
