Ivory Coast’s Isaac Anoh scored twice as De La Salle University subdued defending champion Far Eastern University, 3-1, for its second consecutive victory in the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Football Tournament on Thursday at the UP Football Field.
Anoh struck in close range in the 43rd minute and scored his third goal of the season in the first-half stoppage time to give the Green Booters a 3-1 lead.
Goalkeeper Enrico Mangaoang was solid in manning the post in the second half to preserve De La Salle’s two-goal cushion.
It was the Green Booters first win against the Tamaraws since May 2, 2019, a 1-0 second round win. FEU won against De La Salle three times last season, including the Final Four.
The Green Booters now sit on the top of the table with six points, which was in contrast to last year’s early season struggles.
“It’s good thing that we got the win early, hindi kami catch-up. Now we move forward sa UP game (on March 3),” said La Salle coach Alvin Ocampo.
Luis Henares opened the scoring in the second minute for the Green Booters.
Nickos Mamon then scored the equalizer for the Tamaraws in the 22nd minute.
Anoh then took charge late in the first half for De La Salle, which opened its campaign with a 2-1 victory over University of the East last Sunday.
FEU hopes to rebound against University of the Philippines on Sunday.
