Adamson University sent Ateneo de Manila University reeling to its third consecutive loss in straight sets fashion, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena on Sunday.
The Lady Falcons showed their composure in the second and third frames with on-point endgame execution to complete the sweep.
After Vanie Gandler pulled the Blue Eagles within one in the second, 23-24, Kate Santiago did not let the period get extended by drilling a down-the-line spike.
Ahead by just two late in the third, 18-16, Adamson got contributions from Santiago, May Ann Nuique, and Lucille Almonte. They also had help from Ateneo’s errors to pull away, 25-19.
“Yung pinapractice namin, yung pinaguusapan namin naeexecute ng mga players kaya masaya kami doon,” said head coach Jerry Yee.
The Lady Falcons also grabbed their third straight win to join National University at second behind 4-1 win-loss cards. On the other hand, the Blue Eagles fell to 1-4, tied with University of the Philippines at sixth.
Trisha Tubu drained 23 points built on 22-of-39 attacks, while Santiago backstopped the opposite spiker with 11 kills and collected nine digs.
Faith Nisperos was the hard carry for the Blue Eagles anew with 17 points. Gandler and Lyann De Guzman got nine and eight points, respectively, with the latter chalking up seven excellent receptions and five digs.
Ateneo will try to break out of its spell on Wednesday against University of Santo Tomas at Filoil Ecooil Centre. Adamson will have its mettle tested next Sunday against De La Salle University.
