Adamson University pulled University of Santo Tomas down from cloud nine with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 beating in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Kate Santiago and Trisha Tubu produced 13 points apiece against the Golden Tigresses, who were high off a five-set stunner against reigning champion National University last Saturday.
Rizza Cruz added 10 points of her own including four blocks, while Lucille Almonte rounded out the Lady Falcons’ double-figure scorers with 10 on two service aces.
“Work lang kumbaga UST, NU, or UE laro lang kami. Execute lang kami ng kailangan naming gawin,” said Adamson head coach Jerry Yee in the match that lasted for just an hour and 12 minutes.
Eya Laure looked alive in the third, leading UST to a 17-14 lead midway but Santiago, Cruz, and Tubu took over for the Lady Falcons’ 11-2 closing blast.
The Tigresses were silenced as no one reach double digits in scoring with Laure only managing to get nine points on 7-of-16 attack attempts.
Renren Peñafiel had seven points, while Imee Hernandez and Xyza Gula got six points apiece.
Head coach Kungfu Reyes used all but one of his 14 players.
Milena Alessandrini, who suffered a right ankle sprain against NU, suited up as a libero and did not play.
The Lady Falcons rose to 3-1 while the Golden Tigresses slid to 2-2, tied with Far Eastern University at fourth.
Up next for UST will be University of the Philippines on Saturday at the Philsports Arena. On the other hand, Adamson will face struggling Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday.
