Far Eastern University repeated over winless University of the East, 62-56, to snap its five-game skid in the UAAP Season 85 women’s basketball tournament, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Tamaraws rose to 2-6, knotted with Adamson University for sixth, while the Lady Warriors fell to 0-8.
Down by as much as 19, the Lady Warriors inched to within five after Joyce Terrinal’s triple at the 6:29 mark of the fourth, 47-52.
But Camille Taguiam and Princess Jumuad answered back with eight straight points to put the game away for the Lady Tamaraws with 2:59 to go, 60-47.
“Sa first round, isa lang panalo namin eh UE rin kaya sa second round, pinrepare talaga namin kasi mag bounce back din yan eh,” said FEU coach Bert Flores.
Taguiam had a complete game of 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Danica Pacia got 14 points and seven rebounds while Jumuad tallied 13 points and nine rebounds.
Kamba Kone paced UE anew with a huge 18-point, 22-rebounds performance, while Pauline Anastacio added 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
Up next for FEU will be De La Salle University, while UE meets University of Santo Tomas at the Quadricentennial Pavilion on Wednesday’s quadruple-header.
