UAAP 85 WBB: Adamson gains first win after 28-point romp of UE

Adamson University scored its breakthrough win in the UAAP Season 85 women’s basketball tournament via a 97-69 romp of University of the East, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Dindy Medina led the Lady Falcons with 23 points built on four treys to go with four steals in just over 15 minutes of play.

“We are happy but nothing to celebrate much kasi it’s just our first win eh. We have a lot of work to do kasi we had a tough loss ‘yung dalawang game namin especially ‘yung UP winnable sana siya,” said Adamson head coach Brian Gorospe.

The Lady Falcons uncorked a strong opening frame, taking a 24-point advantage, 33-9, and never looked back.

Rose Dampios chipped in 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while Angela Alaba had 10 points in less than 10 minutes on the floor.

Victoria Adeshina also hauled down 11 rebounds while chipping in six points for Adamson.

The Lady Falcons scorched the nets, making 52.7 percent of their 74 attempts, while also dishing out 27 assists off their 39 field goals.

Adamson improved to 1-2, leaving UE as the lone team yet to get a victory.

Malian student-athlete Kamba Kone paced the Lady Warriors with 17 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Joyce Terrinal also produced 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Both squads will return on Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
