University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle-Santiago Zobel School clinched the Finals berth in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively, in the UAAP Season 85 High School Table Tennis Tournaments, Tuesday at the Makati Coliseum.
The Junior Tigress Paddlers and the Junior Green Paddlers still remained undefeated in eight ties to secure a ticket to the best-of-three championship series set on Saturday with two ties left in their respective elimination round campaigns.
UST leaned on its two doubles pairs in completing 3-0 sweeps of both University of the Philippines Integrated School and University of the East.
Shaira Gabisay and Stefanie Pengson made quick work of Junior Fighting Maroons’ Marra Monterico and Danielle Bailon, 11-1, 11-2, 11-2, while Kaira Agreda and Trwxiemay Alarcon of the Junior Lady Warriors.
On the other hand, Carlos Docto and Gabriel Ravanzo won both Zobel’s ties after taking down their doubles opponents in Ateneo and Adamson University.
The Junior Green Paddlers’ duo took care of Matthew Basco and Nathan Dizon, 11-2, 11-4, 11-2, and then Nichol Lozano and Bnedict Rabaya, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10.
DLS-Zobel and UST stayed within striking distance at the second spots in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively, both at 6-1. UE and AdU share the third spot on the boys’ side at 4-4, while Adamson is just behind UST in the girls’ with 5-3.
The second round concludes on Thursday starting at 8 a.m., still at the Makati Coliseum.
