UAAP 85 BCH: AHS bounces back in Round 2 with dominant display vs DLSZ

By: Ed Ubaldo

Ateneo High School flexed their might against De La Salle-Zobel, scoring a 3.5-0.5 walloping in Round 2 of the UAAP Season 85 Boys’ Chess Championships on Saturday at FEU Tech Gym in Morayta, Manila.

Arena Fide Master Shealtiel Joaquin Blanca, Gian Angelo Alingog, and Bryan Federick Magugat each scored wins in Boards 2, 3, and 4, respectively, while Raiz Ryan Roxas settled for a deuce on Board 1.

Despite faltering against the University of Sto. Tomas on opening day, Ateneo improved to 5 points to stay in solo-second behind Adamson University who has 5.5 points in two season matches.

Far Eastern University then delivered a perfect debut performance as they took down league-leading Adamson University with a 2.5-1.5 victory.

Christian Marcelo Olaybal (Board 1) and Franklin Loyd Andes (Board 3) scored the wins for the Tamaraws while Lemmuel Jay Adena salvaged a draw in Board 4 to preserve the win.

FEU is currently in a tie-for-3rd with UST, who drew a bye in Round 2.
