UAAP 77 Womens Chess Day 3: Unbeaten FEU leads tightest chess race

FEU, the lone undefeated school so far this UAAP Season 77 Womens Chess, grabs solo 1st place after Day 3 when the Morayta-based squad scored a masterful triumph over powerhouse UP, 3-1, last February 21 at Henry Sy Building in De La Salle University.

FEU was almost successful in snaring a Day 3 sweep, but Season 74 Rookie of the Year Mikee Suede had other things in mind. She was the lone victor for UP on Board 2 against Mendoza.

Surprise team NU was able to rebound from their last week’s defeat against DLSU by pouncing Ateneo, 3.5-0.5, to grab the 2nd place.

Defending champion DLSU had a tough day with UST, 2.5-1.5. Fronda and Mejia continued their veteran poise for the Taft-based squad, while UST’s Yaon scored one against DLSU’s Camacho.

The bout between UE and Adamson ended with scores of 2 apiece: 1 win, 1 loss, and 2 ties.

UAAP chess action resumes this Saturday, January 23.

Note: Despite FEU leading the pack after Day 3, all schools except last place UE are just separated by 0.5 points. Also, third ranked DLSU holds the highest SBFIDE so far with 55.75 in case of ties on Points and Match Points (MP).
