UAAP 77 Mens Chess Day 3: NU continues blistering start, grabs solo lead

NU broke the 1st place tie with AdU today as Literatus, Pondoc, Mansanero, and Ceneda spearheaded NU’s Day 3 match sweep over their UE counterparts, 4-0, last January 21 at Henry Sy Building in De La Salle University.

Adamson, who came in today owning the tiebraker over NU prior to Day 3, also reigned victorious over the host school DLSU 2.5-1.5. But the efforts of Labog and Reyes weren’t enough for AdU to grab a 1st place tie with NU in the rankings this time around.

UST grabbed solo third place despite a 2-2 tie with FEU. The match-up resulted to wins from UST’s So Kua and FEU’s Castro. Both schools split their games on Boards 2 and 3.

Lastly, the battle of Katipunan-based schools also ended with a 2-2 deadlock as Garcia of Ateneo and Coronel of UP recorded wins on their respective board matches. Meanwhile, boards 3 and 4 ended with a tie.

UAAP chess action resumes this Saturday, January 23.
