UAAP 77 Men’s Chess: Adamson leads after Day 2

Adamson University clobbered University of the Philippines (UP), 3.5-1.5, to snatch solo spot from National University in Men’s Chess at Henry Sy Hall, DLSU last January 11, 2015.

After NU continued its winnings ways against FEU, 3-1, both schools finished with identical two wins. However, AdU (22.50) won the Sonnenberg tiebraker or SBFIDE over NU (16.50).

The Sonnenberg tiebraker (SBFIDE) computes the accumulated points when a team wins against another team. The higher the SBFIDE, the better a current team’s standings is as compared to the others’.

Meanwhile, a veteran-ladden UST managed to grab solo third place after a masterful 4-0 demolition of UE.

Ateneo and La Salle also went head to head on Men’s Chess today. The matchup resulted to a draw with 2 apiece. The Taft-based squad, however, rounds up the Top 4 after recording a win during Day 1.

The competition for Season 77 is expected to be closest in recent years. An anonymous coach shared that this season is tougher than last year.

The season has just begun, and teams have close gaps with one another. The championship still hangs in the balance.

“This is still anybody’s game”, quipped DLSU assistant coach Susan Grace Neri.
