Tuffin, Wellington advance to NZ-NBL grand final

Top seed Wellington cruised to the 2021 Sal’s New Zealand-National Basketball League grand final after routing Auckland, 99-73, Thursday afternoon at the Te Rauparaha Arena.

The Saints will not await the winner of the Southland-Hawkes Bay clash which is ongoing as of publishing.

Wellington was actually down 44-50 entering the half before turning it up in the third canto.

The Saints limited the Hustkies to just eight points in the third frame while scoring a whopping 30 points that included five triples.

The lead would swell up to as high as 26 points in the closing moments of the game.

Prewster, the regular season MVP, had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for a triple-double. Prewster, who also had two blocks and a steal, is also the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Mythical five team member Taane Samuel was held down to five points but Tohi Smith-Milner and Kerwin Roach stepped up with 30 and 24 markers respectively.

Fil-Kiwi Ken Tuffin had nine points built on two triples.

Thomas Vodanovich had 33 points and seven rebounds but had six turnovers for the Huskies.

Wellington shot a mighty 55-percent from the field, including 17 triples.
