Trisha Genesis eyes fresh start with Capital1

Trisha Genesis is eager to reignite her passion for volleyball after joining Capital1 midway through the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

A 5-foot-7 outside spiker, Genesis entered the PVL with high potential, first joining Akari during its debut in the 2022 Reinforced Conference.

She had already made a name for herself as the standout player for Adamson in the resumption of the UAAP post-pandemic, leading the Lady Falcons to a playoff for the fourth spot in Season 84.

In that season, Genesis finished as the sixth-best scorer with 184 total points after the elimination round. Despite having three more years of eligibility in the collegiate ranks, the Laguna native chose to forgo them and pursue a professional career after her impactful stint with Adamson.

However, opportunities for Genesis became limited. The 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference MVP transferred to Nlex during the 2024 Reinforced Conference but also faced minimal playing time, eventually being excluded from the roster for the ongoing conference.

“Parang fresh nga ulit sa PVL kasi new system, ibang taong kasama – mga never kong nakasama dati pa, even the coaches. Talagang back to zero,” said Genesis after her debut for the Solar Spikers on Tuesday.

In her first game with Capital1, Genesis immediately stepped into the starting role, leading the team with 10 points and five excellent receptions. Unfortunately, they fell to the more seasoned Creamline in straight sets, 19-25, 19-25, 18-25.

“Super happy, sobrang saya makabalik sa taraflex at makalaro na sa bago kong team. Sa nilaro po namin ngayon, para sa akin, okay siya kasi nakipagsabayan po kami, knowing Creamline na defending champion talaga,” Genesis shared.

Her addition is a welcome boost for the Solar Spikers, who are currently struggling with a 1-5 record in 10th place.

Under the guidance of veteran coach Roger Gorayeb, Genesis is grateful for the trust placed in her right from the start.

Thank you so much po, lalong-lalo na sa mga coaches, kay Coach Roger, kasi paglipat ko pa lang, yung tiwala niya agad sa’kin, buong-buo. Thank you so much coach at sa teammates ko po kasi talagang tinanggap nila ako nang buo. Talagang yung tiwala nila, hindi kalahati, but 101 percent,” she expressed.
