The National University Lady Bulldogs are the ultimate underdogs in the tournament. The team finished dead last in the standings a year ago and are now understaffed with no jin competing in the middle-heavyweight division. In a showing of grit and determination, the Lady Bulldogs scored their 2nd win with a beating of the ADMU Lady Jins.
Prized recruit Irene Thea Bermejo soundly defeated Crystal Hukom in the opening finweight match of the series. Bermejo won by means of a 2nd round stoppage due to point gap 16-4 to give ADMU a virtual 2-0 lead. NU needed to win 4 of the next 5 matches. NU’s Angela Loren stepped-up with a sudden death victory over Noleen Lagnada. Weedee Valenzuela would lose to Rheza Aragon due to the 8-kyonggo rule to virtually tie the series 2-all. Shiryl Badol managed to avoid her 8th kyonggo in her match-up against ADMU team captain Kyla Relucio to win 12-8. Rheza’s sister, Rhezie Aragon chalked-in her first win of the season with an 18-11 win over Frances Siapno to give NU its 2nd win of the season.
