Tots Carlos deflected the credit to her teammates following her monster performance in Creamline’s Game One victory over Choco Mucho in the semifinals of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Friday night.
The 23-year-old outside hitter dropped 26 points — three points shy of breaking her tournament-high 28 points in the group stage — built on 21 attacks, four aces, and one block in just four sets.
For Carlos, the team’s collective effort against Choco Mucho paved the way for her 26-point outburst.
“Actually, hindi ko naman magagawa yun without the help of my teammates,” the 2019 PVL Open Conference Best Opposite Spiker told reporters after the win.
“Kung hindi papasok yung middle, hindi ako magkakaroon ng isang blocker. Kung wala si Ate Jia [De Guzman], hindi ako magkakaroon ng attacks so I think it’s the collective effort ng team talaga,” she added.
Apart from the team effort, Carlos bared that her mindset heading into the match as well as her composure in-game also helped her in breaking the Flying Titans’ defense.
Carlos led the team’s breakaway in the fourth frame, leading by as much as 13 points before capping it off with a booming ace.
“Malaking bagay yung mindset e for today’s game, actually every game. Yun talagang pinapairal ko talaga is yung composure, personally so ayun,” said the former UP standout.
“I think I just have to be consistent and trust the system of Coach Sherwin [Meneses] and execute lang namin yung mga diskarte ni Coach Sherwin kasi as you can see maganda naman yung kinalabasan ng laro,” she added.
Creamline looks to close the series against Choco Mucho on Sunday, 3:00 PM at the Mall of Asia Arena.
