Tolentino carries NU; draws first blood in UAAP Men’s Beach Volleyball Finals

After trading the first two sets, the NU Bulldogs pulled through behind an epic performance from Edwin “Toyo” Tolentino and took Game one of the UAAP Men’s Beach Volleyball Finals, 15-21, 21-18, 17-15 at UE Caloocan this morning.

The teams traded sets behind signature performances from their star players as UST’s Michael Alfafara dominated all proceedings at the net in the first set while NU’s Tolentino controlled the pace for the Bulldogs in their second set win.

Neither side refused to give way in the deciding set. NU rallied to an early 7-4 lead as Toyo Tolentino amassed three early blocks. UST’s Alfafara scoring several consecutive points off-well placed drops and blocks, bringing UST to a 13-11 lead late in the seat. NU would then capitalize on consecutive errors and misreceptions from the Tigers, taking the set off a chance ball which Edwin Tolentino easily capitalized on.
