To be the best, you have to beat the best.
After knocking off the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Monday evening, the reward waiting for the Barangay Ginebra Kings is a best-of-seven Final series against the San Miguel Beermen — winners of six of the last 10 championships in the PBA.
With a strong five that has been together for years, the Beermen are seen as the immovable object heading into each conference.
And the most decorated coach in PBA history Tim Cone knows that they are entering the series of their lives.
“You wanna have a great challenge? There’s nothing more challenging in our league than playing this San Miguel which might be the greatest team of all time,” shared Cone, who is gunning for his 21st crown.
“I mean, they could very well be the greatest team of all time.”
But with a healthy lineup, the Kings have been the irresistible force in this conference. Hungrier than ever, Cone believes that they will take this great challenge heads on.
“So the challenge is out there for us. I think our guys are going to embrace it and we’re expecting a tough series,” added Cone.
Ginebra has always been seen as the team that has enough depth to match with San Miguel. Without flinching, the decorated tactician knows that they are ready to dethrone the defending champins.
“Like I said, any team in the league we have, probably, the best match-up to San Miguel.
“We think we can give them a battle. We’ll do our best,” he closed.
