Tiger Spikers end first round with domination over skidding La Salle

After losing a closely-contested match against Adamson last Wednesday, the UST Tiger Spikers bounced back convincingly with a quick victory over the DLSU Green Spikers, 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 to close out their first half stint in UAAP Men’s Volleyball at the San Juan Arena.

A single theme was displayed throughout the match as the UST Tigers crushed the Green Spikers for the whole three sets. They romped to an early set lead with their attacks that left the struggling La Salle squad at bay.

UST also took advantage of free balls and forced La Salle to errors due to their defense. La Salle was limited to minimal rallies as the Tiger Spikers were on cue and sharp on their game both offensively and defensively.

In a one-sided affair, UST dominated the scoring department in all categories. They had a huge edge in terms of spikes, 46-18, and had two more blocks, 6-4. The Tiger Spikers also scored more on service aces, 6-0.

Mark Alfafara once again led the charge offensively for UST with 20 points. Romnick Rico and Jason Sarabia chipped in 10 apiece. For the struggling La Salle squad, Cris Dumago led with six markers.

UST closed out their first seven games with a 5-2 record while La Salle ends it at 1-6. The second round schedule of the season has yet to be announced.
