Teodoro sizzles late as JRU upends Blustar

Behind senior Teytey Teodoro, the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers went on a late flurry to score a 75-64 victory over guest team Blustar Detergent Dragons, Tuesday afternoon in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Tey Teodoro took charge late, as he got eight of his 20 points in the Heavy Bombers’ killer 11-0 blast to help his side grab a 73-60 lead with 42.0 seconds remaining.

The burly guard shot on a 4-of-7 clip from threes, alongside seven rebounds.

Jhaps Bautista also had 18 markers on a 4-6 shooting from threes, to go with six boards, and four assists off the bench while foreign student-athlete Abdoul Poutouochi grabbed nine boards and had five steals to anchor JRU’s fort.

“Bad start kami eh. Sinabi ko na sa huddle na I’m sure that they’re going to adjust. Baka unang laban kaya nanibago lang yung Blustar kaso binigyan na nila ng confidence eh,” said coach Vergel Meneses.

As a team, JRU knocked down 10 triples and shot 45 percent from the field. Blustar shot better from the field compared to their first game, shooting 35 percent.

Alvin Vui Hang Ang paced winless Blustar with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Liaw Chee Huei got 14 markers and seven boards.

JRU (1-0) will play Team Batangas (0-1) this Thursday, January 26, 3:00 PM at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. Meanwhile, Blustar (0-2) will have two-week break before facing Cafe France-CEU (1-0) on February 7, Tuesday, 3:00 PM at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
