Terrence Romeo faces another hurdle with left ankle injury

Terrence Romeo is doing his best to recover as fast as he can after suffering a left ankle injury prior to the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

The star guard is keeping a positive mindset amidst the injury that kept him out of their series opener against Ginebra and has listed him as day-to-day.

“Talagang pinapabilis ko as much as possible na makabalik kaagad ako, kasi sobrang gusto ko makalaro sa semis,” he told reporters moments after the Beermen’s 92-90 win, Wednesday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Romeo disclosed that he got hurt while doing extra work post-practice and heard a pop on his ankle.

He tried to rest it for two days with the hope that would be enough for the pain to subside.

The 31-year-old even took painkillers and tested if he could play through it in Game 1 but the pain wouldn’t go away, reducing him to a spectator.

“Naggagawa ako ng mga drills ko tas na-sprain ‘yung ankle ko. Pag-make ko ng move kumapit ‘yung shoes ko then ayun, parang may tumunog ng konti,” he said.

“Tinry ko i-ice, nagpahinga ako for two days [kaso] hindi pa rin kaya.

“Tinry ko pa rin sa warm-up kung kaya, ‘di pa rin talaga kaya. Uminom na ‘ko ng dalawang Cataflam, medyo masakit pa rin,” he added.

This marks yet another setback for Romeo in this conference.

He was initially sidelined for four games after sustaining a knee injury during the second quarter of their elimination round match versus Meralco last November 19 – also at the Big Dome.

But the two-time champion no longer wants to dwell on the negatives as he sets his sights on recovering ASAP.

“Ang dami ng naging injury na dumating sa’kin so natutunan ko na isipin kung paano ako mag-move forward doon. Hindi yung like, oo setback ‘to, or bad to for me. Lagi ko lang iniisip na may reason ba’t nangyayari sa’kin,” he said.

“Good thing kumpara sa mga injury ko before … kumbaga sa sobrang dami kong naging injury, ito ‘yung pinaka masasabi ko na malayo kumpara sa mga injury ko,” he added.

“So I’ll do my best mag-heal kaagad.”

Romeo will meet the doctor on Thursday.
