Terrence Romeo cut from Gilas 3×3 as Perez, three Fil-Ams compose SEAG team

One of the country’s most accomplished 3×3 players, Terrence Romeo, will not be part of Gilas Pilipinas in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has unveiled CJ Perez, Mo Tautuaa, Chris Newsome, and Jason Perkins as the quartet composing the national team for the regional meet.

Other players cut were Chris Banchero, Ian Sangalang, Baser Amer, Mac Belo, Anthony Semerad, and Raymond Almazan.

Robert Bolick was also part of the pool, but suffered an ACL tear last month.

With this lineup, the Philippines looks to impose its size on the opposition as the team will have an average height of 6-foot-3 3/4 inches.

During the past two months, head coach Ronnie Magsanoc saw the number of attendees dwindle by the number as the weeks went by. The four unranked 3×3 players were always there, though, religiously attending the sessions that mixed video scouting with light scrimmages.

3×3 will be making its debut in the SEA Games this year. It will take place at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia are likely the biggest threats to the host in the two-day tourney.
