San Miguel head coach Leo Austria admitted that there remains no timeline yet regarding Terrence Romeo’s return to action.
The flashy guard missed the Beermen’s 2021 PBA Philippine Cup match versus NorthPort Sunday. It was his second straight absence since suffering a knee injury in their season opener versus Meralco last July 18.
That spoiled his first game back from a shoulder injury, which cut short his campaign in the season resumption last year in Clark. Multiple reports, though, said that Romeo did not suffer anything serious on his leg.
“Wala pang timeline,” said the decorated mentor moments after their 88-86 escape from the Batang Pier at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Austria, though, is optimistic that the three-time scoring champion will be back soon after showing up in yesterday’s practice.
“But in the near future, soon he’ll be back with us. Yesterday, he was with us in the practices and he did some shooting,” he said.
“I’m happy for him na nagpakita siya sa practice sa amin kahapon.”
The four-time Coach of the Year said that Romeo continues to undergo strengthening on his hurt knee, and that the 29-year-old had told him he’ll be rejoining the Beermen’s practices ‘after a week.’
“Continuous ang kanyang strengthening. And then he told me that after a week, he’ll start practicing with the team,” he said.
As glad as they are, though, Austria said that SMB isn’t rushing things with Romeo. All that the team wants is for him to fully recover.
“He’s not in a hurry because what we want for him is to get back to 100 percent kasi alam naman natin kung papaano siya maglaro. Talagang every game, all-out.”
