Taane Samuel to have surgery this week

Fielding in just 13 Green Archers for the season, De La Salle University are now down to just 12.

Kiwi student-athlete Taane Samuel was not in uniform when La Salle took on the National University Bulldogs, Wednesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old big man is nursing a Jones fracture on his right knee, stemming from La Salle’s game against the FEU Tamaraws last September 9.

Samuel logged in just five minutes in the contest, finishing with just two points and two rebounds.

However, the 6-foot-8 Kiwi has yet to have surgery as Dr. Raul Canlas is currently out of the country, according to a school official.

“He will have surgery this week,” said Green Archers Louie Gonzalez after La Salle’s 80-76 win.

Post-surgery, Samuel will need six to eight weeks to recover.

“He will make it in time by second week of November,” he added.
