The Altas forced a tie for second with Philippine Army with identical 3-1 records but the former holds the tiebreaker due to points system, 8-6.
Perpetual’s final game in the group would be against winless Don Pacundo-La Salle Dasmariñas on Wednesday while the Troopers will be up against the pool’s guaranteed first seed Sta. Elena-National U on Sunday.
“Exam week kasi namin kaya medyo kulang kami ng practice kasi fino-focus ko sila sa exams pero, of course, nandoon pa rin yung eagerness nila to win kasi gusto namin makapasok talaga sa quarterfinals,” said Altas head coach Sammy Acaylar on their performance, winning in just 87 minutes.
With star Louie Ramirez checked, Jefferson Marapoc showed out, tallying 16 points on 12 attacks, two blocks, and two aces for Perpetual.
Ramirez still managed to get 12 points along with 12 excellent receptions while Michael Medalla and KC Andrade had 10 points apiece.
JC Enarciso impressed with 23 excellent sets while libero John Philip Pepito did his job with 11 digs and 10 receptions.
Ken Batas was the lone bright spot for Ateneo with 17 points, seven receptions, and six digs.
The Blue Eagles finished with a 1-4 record, logging their only win against the Patriots.
