A new era is set to begin for the College of Saint Benilde Blazers.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, recently retired professional cager Tyrone Tang is set to take over head coaching duties for the College of Saint Benilde Blazers.
Though the two sides have agreed to it in principle, Tang has yet to formally sign with the Blazers. However, another source added that Tang was introduced to the team last Tuesday, November 22.
Tang, 32, retired from professional basketball back in August of 2015. He was a one-time PBA Champion with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, winning the 2012 Governors Cup.
The product of Xavier High School then served as assistant coach to club team Mighty Sports during their 2016 Merlion Cup campaign.
Mighty Sports head coach Charles Tiu, Ali Peek, and Xavier High School head coach Gian Tan will serve as Tang’s assistant coaches with the team the source added.
During his collegiate days, he was part of the champion De La Salle University Green Archers squad that defeated the UE Red Warriors back in the 70th season of the UAAP.
Tang is taking over from former head coach Gabby Velasco. The Saint Benilde Blazers finished their NCAA Season 92 campaign with a 1-17 slate.
