SMART-Araneta Coliseum set to host 2016 SEABA tourney

The Big Dome adds another event to its historic catalog

TV5 Network, Inc. president Chot Reyes confirmed Friday evening that the 2017 Southeast Asia Basketball Association Championship will be held at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The tournament was supposed to be held from April 23-30 but a request was made by the ASEAN Basketball League and the Indonesian Basketball League that the tournament be postponed to May. With the request granted, the 12th edition of the tournament is now scheduled to take place from May 12-18.

The regional meet will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup. Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are expected to participate in the tournament.

The 2015 MVP Cup was the last international basketball tournament hosted by the Araneta Coliseum. Gilas Pilipinas won the tournament that saw participation from Chinese-Taipei, the Wellington Saints, and the TNT Katropa.
