Fans heading to the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday for Game 2 of the UAAP Season 87 Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tournament Finals will be treated to a first-hand look at “The Cube.”
As part of the arena’s 13th-anniversary celebration, the iconic Pasay City venue will unveil its newly upgraded center-hung LED scoreboard, dubbed “The Cube.”
The revamped display now spans 176 square meters — an increase of 36 square meters from the previous 138 — offering a significantly enhanced viewing experience.
Valued at over $2.1 million, the new centerpiece boasts a 117% improvement in display quality compared to its predecessor, according to the management of the 20,000-seater venue.
The Cube was developed by Daktronics, the renowned scoreboard manufacturer behind some of the NBA’s top arenas, including Madison Square Garden in New York City and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
MOA Arena General Manager Arnel Gonzales emphasized that this upgrade reflects the venue’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class experiences for fans of sports, concerts, and other live events.
“This magnitude of investment and facility upgrade serves as SM MOA Arena’s testament to bringing exemplary live entertainment to the country,” Gonzales said.
“Through continuous development and innovation with the latest technology, SM MOA Arena aims not only to change the game and elevate entertainment but to be recognized among the most sophisticated venues in the world,” he added.
In the men’s volleyball finals, Far Eastern University is looking to end a 13-year title drought, while National University hopes to force a deciding Game 3, which is scheduled for Saturday at the same venue.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, the NU Lady Bulldogs will aim to complete their title defense against the De La Salle Lady Spikers.
