Having June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter is a no-brainer for any coach that’s going to handle the national team in the near future.
That’s what San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria believes.
“Hindi naman na kailangang pag-isipan yan. Sila yung malalaki sa PBA na nagdo-dominate sa kanilang mga teams. I’m sure, any coach would like to have them together for the national team,” Austria told media after the game. “Natural lang kasi na when it comes to our national team, kailangan natin ng malalaking players dahil malilit yung team natin. Kailangan natin si June Mar and Greg,” he added.
Fajardo doesn’t want to talk about his future involvement with the national team, but he believes playing alongside Slaughter will be good for the program. “Maganda kung magsasama kami pero ayoko munang isipin yan,” said Fajardo.
Slaughter and Fajardo were already training together when the team was gearing up in preparation for the World Cup and the Asian Games. But the Barangay Ginebra slotman chose to help his team, citing he already served the national team the past few years. This time, though, Slaughter is opening doors for a return stint to the national squad.
“I played before and definitely I will play again for the national team,” said Slaughter. “It’s always an honor to play for the national team.”
