SEA Games: PWNVT avoids Group of Death; PMNVT not part of draw


The Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team has avoided both regional powerhouses Thailand and Indonesia in the group stages of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

The Philippines, which will be bannered by Alyssa Valdez, will be grouped with last year’s silver medalist Vietnam.

Also composing Group B are Cambodia and Singapore.

During the games held in Quang Ninh last year, only five nations joined the women’s volleyball tournament.

The Philippines placed fourth among five nations.

Also part of the squad the is coached by Jorge Edson Souza De Brito are Jia De Guzman, Kyla Atienza, Celine Domingo, Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos, Michele Gumabao, Gel Cayuna, Glaudine Troncoso, Kath Arado, Dell Palomata, Cherry Nunag, Kat Tolentino, and Mylene Paat.

Meanwhile, the Philippines was conspicuously not part of the men’s draw.

In Group A are Indonesia, Cambodia, and Singapore.

Meanwhile, Group B will consist of Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar.
