SEA Games: PMNVT gets back at Singapore, places fifth

Fresh off a morale-boosting win over Malaysia, the Philippine men’s national volleyball team exacted revenge over Singapore by winning 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 and finished fifth in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games at the Indoor Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

During the group stage, the Filipinos lost via sweep to the Singaporeans with a score of 23-25, 21-25, 18-25.

In the fourth set, with the scores tied at 23, Jade Disquitado delivered a booming cross-court attack that put the Philippines in match point.

Ajay Singh Shergill launched an emphatic hit on Jayvee Sumagaysay’s defense in an attempt to extend the match. However, the Singaporeans were caught off guard as the ball sailed out, handing the win to the Philippines.

The Philippines placed fifth in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam after claiming a historic silver medal in the 30th edition in Manila.
