SEA Games: Jess Geriane resets 50m backstroke record, takes silver


Jess Geriane once more broke the national record after finishing second in the women’s 50-m backstroke in the 31st Southeast Asian Games swimming competitions with a time of 29.35 seconds to capture the silver, Sunday at the My Dinh Water Sports Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The University of Notre Dame student-athlete earlier led the finalists into the event with 29.38, with compatriot Chloe Isleta ending in third.

Indonesia’s Masniari Wolf, though, claimed the gold in the evening’s final with 29.21. Wolf’s fellow Indonesian Anak Agung Istri Kania Ratih Atmaja rounded the podium with 29.59.

Chloe Isleta finished in fourth with a time of 29.74 seconds.

Miranda Renner earlier got the contingent’s first medal of the Games on Saturday after winning the bronze in the women’s 100-m freestyle with 56.95.
