SEA Games: Catantan leads women’s foil team to silver

Samantha Catantan added another medal to her collection.

The 20-year-old fencing prodigy and the rest of the Philippine women’s foil team fought hard despite falling short of the gold against Singapore in the finals, 28-33, and pocketed the silver medal, Tuesday at the Hanoi Indoor Games Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Catantan, Maxine Esteban, Wilhelmina Lozada, and Justine Gail Tinio earlier dominated the Thailand quartet with a 45-26 rout to set a final date with the Singaporeans.

The same Filipino squad bagged the bronze in the event three years ago in 2019 in Pasay City.

The men’s epee team, consisting of individual silver medalist Noelito Jose Jr., Lee Ergina, Samuel German, and Miggy Bautista, exited in the quarterfinals after a sorry loss to Thailand, 42-45.
