After getting shut out of the gold three years ago in the men’s 9-ball pool, the Philippine billiards team assured the country of the gold and the silver medals.
Carlo Biado and Johann Chua edged out their respective Singaporean foes in the semifinals to arrange an all-Filipino gold medal final in the men’s 9-ball pool singles at the 31st Southeast Asian Games, Tuesday at the Ha Dong Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The 2019 doubles bronze medalists in the said discipline will dispute the gold on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (12 p.m., Philippine time).
Reigning US Open champion Biado had to fend off his opponent in the final of the said tournament in Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp in the semifinals in a highly contested 9-7 battle.
Chua, on the other hand, made shorter work of Lina Han Toh, also of Singapore, 9-3.
In 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, it was Biado who pocketed the gold in the men’s 9-ball pool singles, while Chua finished with the bronze.
